MARLBOROUGH will lose its High Street Natwest branch in June 18 2018 as part of a series of closures announced by Natwest and RBS published today.

The nearest branch will be 12.1 miles away on Swindon Commercial Road.

In total 680 staff members are expected to lose their jobs as 197 branches of Natwest shut across England and Wales and 62 RBS locations will close in Scotland.

Commenting on the closure of the Marlborough branch, a spokesman for Natwest said: “Since 2012 we have seen the way in which people use the branch change dramatically, with now 89 per cent of customers already banking in other ways locally.

“Transactions in NatWest Marlborough branch have reduced by 50 per cent since 2012 with now only 37 customers visiting the branch on a weekly basis.

“65 per cent of customers are now choosing to bank digitally with us on a regular basis instead.”

The bank added that the post office in Marlborough will continue to offer a range of banking services for Natwest customers.

Other local branches set to face closure are Wootton Bassett, Melksham, Hungerford and West Swindon.
