AFTER lengthy a discussion on whether or not the town council should back new plans for a crossing in Bath Road, Devizes, members of the planning committee decided not to pursue the scheme.
Three years ago owners of the Spa Shop campaigned to stop a zebra crossing going outside their store for fear it would make parking impossible and cost them trade.
Devizes town councillors were told by Wiltshire Council there was only one suitable place for the crossing so reluctantly voted against it. Now a bid to re-open the discussion has failed as town councillors said the situation had not changed. Cllr Judy Rose tried to push for a new position but was told it was unlikely to meet Wiltshire Council criteria.
