A foodbank organiser could hardly believe his eyes when he saw the mountain of donations collected by a Calne school during the harvest festival celebrations.

Alan Brearley Chairman of Devizes Foodbank was at St Margaret’s Preparatory School to collect all of the offerings brought in by the children.

He said: “I was astonished by the huge amount of food which has been donated. I just about managed to squeeze it all into the foodbank van!

“This food will help meet the needs of families in crisis. We have recently seen a significant increase in requests for food.

“So, thank you to all those who arranged and organised the collection of food and to all those who gave so generously.”

More than 60 bags of donations were made and this year, for the first time, included toiletries. During the Harvest Service the choir sang Let’s Harvest and Thank Your Lucky Stars to a full congregation. Year 2 pupils Charlotte and Nathaniel read harvest prayers which they had written themselves, whilst Ben and Charlotte from Year 6 read The Parable of the Sower.
