CHILDREN at village schools near Devizes wore yellow to show support for young people who are suffering from mental health problems they are not alone.

Youngsters at Five Lanes Primary in both Potterne and Worton joined in HelloYellowDay as part of World Mental Health Day. Pupils and staff all wore a yellow item of clothing and shared messages that showed that there was always someone to talk to.

Children decorated yellow cakes to raise money for the charity Young Minds and also took part in meditation.

Headteacher Melanie Cunningham said: “We know that children face a lot of challenges and pressures today and believe schools and teachers have an important role to play in the recognition of mental health problems and in promoting mental wellbeing for all children.

“We want our little people to not feel overwhelmed by big emotions. We could not be prouder of our children. They have all been speaking so maturely about mental health today.

"The fun and focussed activities emphasised important messages. They read books about emotions had an uplifting singalong, made worry dolls and created art reflecting mental health understanding."
