Customers trying to buy ice cream and barbecue food at Devizes biggest supermarket have been out of luck after problems meant freezers and fridges stopped working.

Shoppers who visited Morrisons on Sunday and Monday on two of the hottest days of the year were greeted with empty shelves in both the freezer and chilled aisles.

Today some of the fridges and freezers were restored to use and restocked but the freezers remained out of action.

One customer said: "I went to the store on Monday afternoon with my children and there was absolutely nothing frozen or cold to buy so we just left."

A Morrisons spokesman said today that a mechanical fault caused by the hot weather had meant the freezers and fridges had failed.

He said: "We apologise to our customers and we are working to restore everything as soon as possible. As of Tuesday some fridges and some freezers are back working."
