VILLAGERS in Rowde are continuing to do their bit to help family of baby Charlie Gard send him to America for potential life saving surgery.

Organist David Grove, 80, played in the church for six hours on Saturday and raised £150. On this Saturday (1) a concert for Charlie is to be held at the Cross Keys, Rowde from 7.30pm to 10.30pm. Tickets cost £5 with under 16s free. All money raised will go to the fund that was first boosted in the village earlier this month when children from the church choir organised to sing at Rowde Primary and also held a cake sale.

The children at Rowde Primary raised £365 to help baby Charlie who suffers from mitochondrial depletion syndrome.

His parents Connie Yates and Chris Gard are battling to take the seven-month-old to the US for pioneering treatment which they hope will save his life.

Members of the church choir at St Matthew's, Rowde, were told about the plight of baby Charlie by choir mistress Vicky Bolley.
