THE family of a 13-year-old Hardenhuish pupil have spoken of their pride after he raised £170 for the Cleft Lip and Palate Association which has helped his family, following a school assembly on being a good citizen.

Flanked by supportive friends and family, Luca Bailey enlisted the help of his friend Joe and called upon an army of bakers to help him sell cakes at Emery Gate on Saturday, for a charity he described as being close to his heart.

"Luca had an assembly at school about the Good Citizen Award and he came home and told us he wanted to take part," mum Alison Bailey said.

"His little brother Lenny has a cleft palate so the charity is one that has helped us through the first two years of our journey. They are invaluable to us as a family and they don't get government funding.

"It was all his idea. People came up to us and said they knew about the charity or knew someone with a cleft palate. It was really nice to hear other people's stories too as it is not something you come across every day. We are super proud of him."

The 13-year-old said he was really happy with the sale and hopes to do something similar in the near future.
