THE whole family of nine-year-old Morgan Denbury were in floods of tears this week after an anonymous benefactor contacted the Gazette to make sure they were crying with joy rather than sadness.

Morgan of Esctourt Crescent, Devizes, was left devastated when a bike he was given for his birthday was stolen from the back garden. But a Gazette reader was so moved by his story that he has given Morgan £100 for a new bike.

This week the money was handed over by the Gazette much to Morgan's delight and shock of the whole family including his mum Liz, dad Andrew and sister Poppy.

Mrs Denbury, 41. said: "I'm in floods that someone has been so generous. We really want to thank him him. It is such a kind thing to do and Morgan is so pleased he has written a card to say thank you."

The man contacted the Gazette last week and said he did not want to be identified but to just make sure Morgan could get a new bike. He said: "When I read the story I couldn't believe someone would do that. I have children of my own and know how they would feel. I am just pleased to be able to help."

Morgan, who goes to Seend Primary, was thrilled when he was originally given a black Apollo Ridge bike at the end of October for his birthday and his mum took a video of his excitement when he realised he had got his much wished for present.

She said: "He was so excited. He really loved it and used it when we went out on rides down Quakers Walk or to the park. There is a private road at the back of our house where it is safe and he and his friends play out there."

His sister gave him skull and cross bone valve caps to go on the bike that has Shimano gears and was his pride and joy.

Mrs Denbury urged other families to be careful. She said: "It was horrible to think that people would take a child's bike and to think people have been in our garden looking for things."

Another well wisher also contacted the Gazette to say they had a bike that could be a replacement for Morgan and Mrs Denbury is contacting them also to say thank you.
