MUSIC icons throughout the decades were seen at Cherhill Primary School as children dressed up and embraced National Sing Up Day.

All 200 children and staff at the school took part in the day of singing yesterday.

The school is a member of the award-winning Sing Up organisation, which provides singing resources for schools and believes that all children should have the right to good quality singing provisions.

“We’re a Platinum Sing Up school and it’s an annual event that we do,” said deputy headteacher Helen Lammin.

“Music and singing is prevalent in our school and we’ve dedicated the whole of the day to singing.

“We’ve had a variety of costumes, the more popular and current ones like Justin Bieber, Amy Winehouse, various Spice Girls, and we had some children dress up as John Lennon and Freddie Mercury.

“We have a range of different activities. Each class are working towards star challenges ranging up to 20 stars.

“So they were learning new songs, doing raps, creating lyrics to well-known theme tunes and singing in different languages.

“Our Sing Up choir group also sang this morning in an assembly.

“If you think everyone in the whole school dresses up, as you walk through the school all you can hear is singing.

“It’s a lovely environment and the children get really excited about it.”
