FUNDRAISING to help a school aim high by taking a national endurance record has gone into overdrive.

Pupils at Lavington School are raising cash to support a bid by a team of 40 to complete the Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours.

On Friday pupils from Year 10 gave up their teacher training day to come into school to wash cars and raised £200.

The week before they raised £730 from a non-uniform day and this week bake sales are being held during break times. Coming up there will be a bingo night on March 31.

Assistant head Lisa Adams has organised the challenge for May 26 that will see them take on Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in a bid to become the youngest team to complete the endeavour in one day.

Mrs Adams said: "It will be a gruelling challenge but if we succeed it will set a new national record for the youngest group of students completing the challenge in the twenty hour period. Once we have returned to the bottom of Snowdon the clock will stop and hopefully the celebrations will begin."

A total of £6,000 towards equipment and other costs has also been given as a grant by Devizes Area Board.
