VOLUNTEERS from Devizes Foodbank will have their eyes on the prize when they take part in a trolley dash at a supermarket on Sunday (29).

The foodbank has been given the golden opportunity to collect goods it most needs after the prize was donated to the charity following the Devizes Christmas Tree festival organised by fundraising group Omnes Ad Unum.

Foodbank co-ordinator Alan Beamish was delighted to be given the opportunity. He said: "It was lovely to be given this chance to get goods we really need. I will be doing a big of a reccy to make sure I know where everything this.

"It will be good to be able to collect items that are in big demand but are not donated as often as some other goods." High on his list of priorities will be toiletries.

The trolley dash was donated by Morrisons to a prize draw that was held as part of the tree festival and bazaar at St John's Church in December. The group has also organised a presentation evening for February 15 in the parish room to give out money raised by the event. A total of six good causes will receive around £600 each.

Organisers were delighted with how many people joined in the 2016 festival and have already set the 2017 date of December 8 and 9.

As reported in last week's Gazette the foodbank has to find a new home by Easter and has appealed for any businesses that could house the charity's store to get in touch.
