ONE good cause helped out another after Savernake View Care Home raised more than £300 for Parkinson's UK from a Christmas raffle.

The care home, in Salisbury Road, held a Christmas choral celebration to celebrate their residents’ first Christmas at the home, featuring live music and the raffle.

On Tuesday, manager Cathy Fountain presented a cheque of just over £300 to Ken Luxon of Parkinson’s UK during a tea party held at the home.

“Savernake View, like many care homes, look after residents living with Parkinson’s disease and it is therefore a charity very close to many of our hearts,” she said.

Mr Luxon said: “We were thrilled to hear that the home had been raising money for us and I am only too pleased to accept this cheque on behalf of the charity.”

“Every penny we raise has a purpose and this will go to great use to support those affected by Parkinson’s disease.”

About 50 people, including Mayor Noel Barrett-Morton who turned on the home’s Christmas lights, enjoyed the celebration event and vied for raffle prizes which included a Kindle, a luxury M&S hamper, a bottle of champagne and a fruit hamper.

The care homes’ client services manager, Sarah Jacka, said, “We had a huge response for the event, which we opened to the public too. Amongst residents, staff, family and friends, We were delighted to see so many faces from the local community and the support for the charitable raffle was overwhelming.”
