THREE artistic students from The John Bentley School have won a national drawing competition with their mathematical inspired superhero designs.

National Numeracy and Maths on Toasts tasked children in August and September to design a superhero who was good with numbers and solving problems and last week twelve-year-olds Lucy Smart, Ben Lees and Francis Jordan received their certificates of commendation and achievement from National Numeracy and Maths on Toast.

"There are lots of reading and writing challenges for school children but less about numbers and maths," Jason Tudor, Principal at The John Bentley School said. "So well done to National Numeracy and Maths on Toast for launching this - the children really enjoyed entering and we are delighted to have a winning entry amongst our students!"

Ben won the category for Artistic Talent with his Super Circle drawing, Lucy's Calcu-Thor won funniest character and Francis was highly commended for good artistic skills with his Geometry Boy drawing.

The triumphant Year 7 students will receive a set of maths goodies including family board game Number Rumbler and mathematical pattern colouring book called Snowflake Sea Shell Star by Alex Bellos.

Alexandra Fitsimmons, CEO of Maths on Toast, said β€œIt's been great to see so much imagination given to the idea of a number superhero, and we were really pleased to see so many thoughtful entries that explored not only number skills but ideas about confidence and learning from mistakes. ”
