Charlotte Hicks has more reason than most for Braving the Shave for Macmillan as six years ago her sister lost her fight against cancer at the age of 28 just three weeks after she was diagnosed.

At the time Mrs Hicks and her whole family were devastated at the loss of young mum Hayley Parker but now she wants to do her bit to help the charity which supports cancer victims.

Tomorrow she will be at Body Tonic in Sidmouth Street, Devizes, to lose all of her hair and will be joined but others who are waxing or shaving to raise money for both Macmillan and Stand Up To Cancer.

She said: "Six years ago I was with my sister when they told her that she had cancer. Not knowing the extent of her condition at that time one of her main concerns was losing her hair. Three weeks later I was also with my sister when she passed away.

"Hair at this point was insignificant. To me my actions aren't brave. Brave are all those people going through cancer or having lost their lives to cancer. Therefore if me shaving my hair off will raise some money for those going through the same it will all be for a good cause."

Miss Parker was helped by a Macmillan nurse during her final weeks.

Mrs Hicks said: "They are a fantastic charity and I want to raise as much money as possible."

Mrs Hicks, who has children aged two and nine, has already raised £1,400 and hopes this will be increased on the day.

Body Tonic is also hoping to raise money from donations tomorrow.

Her sister, who grew up in Lavington, died from bowel cancer on October 25, 2010, leaving a son Oliver who was due to celebrate his third birthday just two weeks later. At the time her mother Sally told how her daughter's problems started with a pain in the shoulder that then quickly spread.
