PUPILS and staff at Abbeyfield School have been left overjoyed after the school achieved its best ever GCSE results.

A total of 87 per cent of students achieved A*- C in English and 86 per cent achieved A*- C in Maths with 77 per cent of the 133 students achieving five A*-C or more including maths and English.

Almost one in three students achieved an A* or A in English and nearly one in four achieved either an A* or A in maths.

Headteacher Ian Tucker said: “These are stunning results and they reflect the hard work of all the students, teachers and supportive parents.

“Our school is going from strength to strength and it was a privilege to be amongst so many happy students this morning.

“We hope to see many of them return to us in September as they join our highly successful sixth form.

“One of the best outcomes is that our students made such excellent progress in their time with Abbeyfield. They really responded well to excellent teaching and staff that believed in them.”

Victoria Summers, who achieved two A*s and four As, said: “The results are better than I was expecting.

“I’m going to the sixth form here and I’m thinking of primary school teaching as a career.”

Erin Jones, who achieved four A*s and four As, said: “I didn’t know what to expect but I was so nervous I was shaking.”
