DEVIZES web designer Sam Lashenko is taking part in a tour of the south west in a £150 car to raise money in memory of his cousin.

Mr Lashenko, who works for software company Honeystone of Devizes hopes to raise money for the Will Cross Fund and the RNLI by stopping at more than 50 places in five days.

He and a group of friends will be taking part in the South West Stint from September 8 to 12 in their budget modified cars. Originally Mr Lashenko and his six friends had £150 per pair to spend on a car and then another £150 to modify them ready for the challenge.

In May Mr Lashenko's cousin Will Lashenko Cross died aged just 17 following a severe case of hydrocephalus. Friends and family say they are still in complete shock after the sudden death of the incredibly talented and loved young man.

So they are setting up a charitable foundation that will be used to assist young people to fulfil their dreams and aspirations in areas of life about which Will was passionate.

Mr Lashenko said: "The modify budget is the only money we are allowed to spend on our cars. This includes getting them road worthy and through an MOT. The main challenge is to complete the 750 miles across varying terrain, visiting all of the 50 plus stops, all around the South West and to cross the finish line all in one piece.

"We will photograph the entire team at each stop, either huddled around a road sign, or holding up a black board with the name on it. The stint is over five days, where we will be camping at our checkpoints for each of the 4 nights."
