Greathouse care home's service manager has been recognised for her dedication to providing excellent care by Leonard Cheshire Disability at an awards ceremony in Speaker's House, Westminster.

Sue Weeks was awarded the prestigious Inspirational Manager Award on Wednesday, July 20 as part of the international charity's annual staff awards.

She said: "I was just very, very shocked that anyone thought I could be an inspiration to anybody. It's lovely just to feel that you're appreciated because nobody ever says thank you to a manager. You're always there for your staff, so it's nice that somebody has actually said thank you. Well, they've said more than thank you.

"Seeing the residents enjoying themselves and getting the best out of their life that they can - that's what takes me to work every day."

The charity was impressed with her vision for Greathouse, her commitment to high standards of nursing and care and recently the goat petting therapy initiative that has recently been launched.

Mrs Weeks joined other finalists at the ceremony to celebrate the leading stars of the charity which was also attended by the Speaker of the House of Commons.

MP John Bercow said: "I was deeply moved to hear the lengths our winners go to, to improve the lives of disabled people and I would like to express a huge congratulations to them.

"They should feel particularly proud to have stood out among so many examples of excellence, as the competition for these awards was extremely tight.

"Hearing about the energy, compassion and creativity with which they approach their roles is truly inspiring and their hard work makes me feel immensely privileged to be part of Leonard Cheshire Disability."
