A WARNING that household recycling centres are likely to be extremely busy this weekend has been issued by Wiltshire Council.

“The bank holiday weekend has always been a particularly busy time to visit the HRCs, so we would encourage people to plan ahead and be aware that the sites are likely to be particularly busy throughout this weekend,” said Toby Sturgis, cabinet member with responsibility for strategic planning, property, waste and strategic housing.

In recent weeks some have had to queue to use their centre during the busy summer period and while residents are adjusting to the new opening hours.

Main queues have built up before the new opening time of 10am and people are advised to not turn up at an HRC site before 10am.

Would-be users are also advised by the council to check to ensure they are familiar with the new arrangements before setting off.

The centres saw changes to opening hours last month, with people now allowed to drop off items between 10am to 4pm on each day they are open.

All sites are open on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, which are the days when usage is at its highest, along with two additional days each week. These additional days are on the same days each week for individual sites but vary from site to site.

The variations are intended to ensure that residents have access to at least one household recycling centre within their area be it in north, south, east or west Wiltshire open for use seven days a week.
