CHIPPENHAM-based renewable electricity company Good Energy won the Leadership Award at the 2015 British Renewable Energy Association awards.

The company secured the award at The Savoy in London for the scale of its investment and its continued commitment towards securing the future of the UK’s energy needs from renewable sources.

Juliet Davenport, CEO and founder of Good Energy, said: “Good Energy has been a catalyst for change for more than 15 years, giving consumers the chance to choose 100 per cent renewable electricity right from the start, and breaking down the barriers to a 100 per cent renewable future.

“Our mission to tackle climate change remains at the core of our business and in the past year we’ve continued to invest in new renewable generation projects and secured funding for the next phase of our growth strategy.

“It’s a real honour to receive this award as it recognises the efforts of everyone who has helped make Good Energy what it is today.”

Good Energy beat finalists EY LLP, Innasol Ltd and Lightsource Renewable Energy.

Last year alone, the supplier and generator built and commissioned a new wind farm and its first two solar farms, and invested in a number of new sites, two of which began generating renewable electricity earlier this year.

REA chief executive Nina Skorupska said: “The judges agreed Good Energy have consistently showed leadership, challenging the status quo not only for their customers, but also in helping to change the landscape in the market.”

It is its second award this month, having already been named Social Impact Company of the Year at the 2015 Small Cap Awards, for the second year running.

Tomas Carruthers, chief executive of the Social Stock Exchange, said: “This is testament to their dedication to creating real change within the energy market and providing a viable alternative to the Big Six energy suppliers.”

Denise Cockrem, chief financial officer of Good Energy, said: “We see ourselves as a blueprint for what energy companies can and should look like in the future, so it’s great to be recognised for our achievements in this way.”
