AT the Devizes Area Board on Monday it was announced that proposed Wiltshire Council street light changes to will be rolled out in Devizes from September 2.
The changes involve turning off street lighting across the town between midnight and 5.30am as part of a cost cutting measure to save £300K from Wiltshire Council’s £1.2million lighting budget.
Lights at junctions, crossings and where crime is a problem will still remain on all night and some will also be dimmed at less busy times where appropriate.
More than 1,300 street lights of the counties 40,000 lights have already been converted to part night lighting and over the next twelve months alterations will also be made to equipment to enable lights to be individually controlled.
