CALNE in Bloom are to launch their bid for a second South West in Bloom gold award in two years on May 16.

The group’s 2015 campaign will get underway at the Lion’s Club Annual Duck Race later this month.

Calne in Bloom, a collaboration between the town council and local community gardening and conservation groups, won its first gold award in the Royal Horticultural Society’s South West in Bloom Awards last year and the group are eager to raise awareness of their bid as community participation accounts for 40 per cent of the marks in the award.

Environmental responsibility and horticultural achievement account for 30 per cent each.

Trudy King, Calne in Bloom co-ordinator, said: “We will have lots of information at our stall on how the community can get involved in the campaign so please come along to support us and find out how you can become involved.”

Local groups have also been involved in the It’s Your Neighbourhood category of South West in Bloom ranging from the Junior Gardener’s Club and nurseries to schools, Calne Bowls Group and Air Cadets.

Local conservation groups, including Castlefields Canal and River Park Association and Friends of Abberd Brook, are also set to play a key part in the bid for the gold award as well as churches and local communities in Oak Close, Page Close and The Wharf.
