A country and western group will set the tone for Lions May fair on Monday in Devizes Market Place.

Last year good weather helped the even raise more than £2,000 for good causes and organisers are hoping for the same this year.

A ferris wheel which proved a major draw last year is returning again along with a steam engine, vintage cars, train rides and Punch and Judy show.

The country and western theme will be continued with line dancing and members of the Lions will dress up.

In addition to the attractions in the Market Place there will be stalls in The Shambles and the Corn Exchange.

Lion Robert Postlethwaite said: "We were very lucky with the weather last year and have to hope for the same again. We really organise this event to say thank you to the people who support us during the year but of course it would be nice to raise money for good causes as well. There is no entry charge but be we will be collecting."

Devizes Community Area Partnership is organising an event at the fair to get more volunteers from the town for good causes. When the First World War was declared 750 men from the town volunteered and now it is trying to mirror this by getting people to sign up for 750 hours of volunteering.

There will be street art in Snuff Street with displays of volunteering opportunities.

Devizes Lions will also be raising money when they join forces with Devizes Rotary Club at a joint golf day at North Wilts on May 13 and still have a few spaces remaining. Money will go to Wiltshire Air Ambulance. To book a place ring ()1380) 727061 or go to www.devizeslions.org.uk
