A village primary school has followed in the footsteps of ceramic artist Paul Cummins whose installation of poppies at the Tower of London drew millions of visitors.

Year ten students from Lavington School helped youngsters from Dauntsey Academy Primary School to make their own version of ceramic poppies to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.

The poppies have been planted on a traffic island in front of the primary school in West Lavington as a lasting reminder.

Sue Kerr, co-ordinator of the project, said: "“The students from Lavington School were fabulous to work with, along with their teacher.

"Their patience and support to complete the project has had a great impact on our children. They were amazing role models and we are already looking forward to our next project together."
