FAR, far away in the land of Sainsbury’s Chippenham, children’s author and illustrator Tom Percival celebrated World Book Day with princesses and superheroes from Frogwell School.

The author of Bubble Trouble read his story, about friendship, fights, and making up, to a group of 22 youngsters in costume and hosted a story workshop in which he demonstrated how to create characters.

Catherine Jenkins, year one teacher at Frogwell School, said: “We were thrilled to hear that our school was selected to take part in this special reading event which captured the magic of World Book Day. The children were really excited to meet Tom Percival and to dress up as their favourite book characters.

“Reading is such an important part of a child’s development and we aim to foster a love of reading. By being given the opportunity to meet an author in person, Sainsbury’s has helped to develop the fun and pleasure in reading and hopefully the motivation for our children to become budding authors themselves.”

Every child was given a signed copy of Bubble Trouble to take home.

Percival’s first picture book, Herman’s Letter, won the Gold award for the Pre-School Book category in the Prima Awards.
