Accountant Michaela Swadling-Stickler has transformed her North Wiltshire home into a Christmas Wonderland with a dazzling display of 200,000 fairy lights in memory of her late father.

Now she is inviting the public to enjoy her stunning light show in Charlton with the aim of raising £20,000 for Epilepsy Research UK. Kenneth Swadling died five years ago as a result of the condition, aged 56.

Ms Swadling-Stickler, 40, said: “Christmas was always very special in our family and my dad loved decorating the tree. He had his own particular way of doing it. Christmas lights always remind me of him.”

After his death in 2009 she created a Christmas light show in her garden and asked people to make a donation to Epilepsy Research UK, raising £765.

Ms Swadling-Stickler, who has a nine-year-old son Malachai, created a larger display the following year and raked in an amazing £7,600 for the charity.

Her festive light shows have become more elaborate every year and she has now raised more than £50,000.

This year she is hoping to topple last year’s impressive tally of £19,500 by hitting the £20,000 mark for the first time.

Work on this year’s display began in September.

She said: “It gets bigger every year. It’s always different too. We’ve also had to use a generator for the first time.”

Three electricians spent two days putting the finishing touches to the display, which can be seen until January 6.

Visitors will also be able sip mulled wine or coffee and have a mince pie as they walk around the extravagantly illuminated premises.

Anyone wishing to see the festivities and make a donation can do so at collection boxes at the house or donate online via Just Giving at www.justgiving.com/ charltoncharitylights/ The address is Homefield, Charlton, Malmesbury, SN16 9DH.
