The biannual Clock Change Challenge in Calne sold out for the first time on Sunday with 300 runners taking part in the 10k race.

The 13th edition of the road race, number 12 in the Wiltshire race league, saw 250 runners sign up in advance with the 50 places left on the day also being taken.

It was the first time the race included veteran and team prizes, something Calne Leisure Centre’s health & fitness manager, Luke Shipway, thinks increased numbers.

With the event, which takes place on the day of the spring and autumn clock changes each year, continuing to grow in popularity, organisers at Calne Leisure Centre are introducing a 5k race next March.

The course, which starts at Calne Leisure Centre before heading up Stockley Lane and around the village of Heddington, was completed in record time by Stockport runner Patrick Martin.

He beat the previous record holder Simon Nott of Calne Running Club on the day by over two minutes in a time of 30 minutes 27.25 seconds.

Mr Nott (32:59.60) came in second ahead of Avon Valley runner Michael Towler (34:14.40) in third.

In the women’s section Fiona Price (40:37.75) and Anita Mellowdew (41:55.30) came first and third respectively, with Sue Hall (40:54.30) splitting the Avon Valley runners with her second placed finish.
