Designer and milliner Carrie Jenkinson has signed a deal with retail giant House of Fraser to have her fascinators sold in their London stores.

Two years ago the 39-year-old from Chippenham was miserable in a business liaison manager role.

Then she taught herself to make fascinators by watching videos on YouTube.

Her husband was slightly aghast when she quit her day job to indulge her hobby full-time, but since taking the plunge she has met Prince Charles, featured in Vogue three times and received praise from the likes of fashion photographer Mario Testino.

Now the Carrie Jenkinson range – made in her garden shed in Sedgefield Way, with sinamay fabric dried off in her own kitchen oven – is to be sold exclusively in House of Fraser’s flagship Oxford Street store and four others.

The retailer ordered ten each of eight different styles, all individually signed by Mrs Jenkinson. They will be part of the spring summer 2015 collection and sell at between £80 and £150 each.

“It’s insane, I’m just in complete shock,” she said.

“It happened really quickly. I emailed them and they got back to me straight away and we started negotiating styles and I went to their Baker Street office last month.

“I thought they were going to laugh at me and tell me to leave. When they said they loved them, it was difficult for me to get out of that building without screaming and jumping up and down.”

Mum-of-three Mrs Jenkinson handles her own accounting and marketing. She said: “I just work it out as I go along. It’s amazing what you can learn from YouTube.

“We don’t know where it will go from here, we’ll see.

“Making hats has completely changed my life. It got me out of a really bad part of my life, I just didn’t want to get out of bed. Now I’m here with my family. It’s nuts.”
