Sheldon School in Chippenham received a visit from Justine Greening, Secretary of State for International Development.
The MP told sixth formers: “Parliament is for everyone. Get involved. The more people coming up from normal backgrounds the better.”
She said she was impressed by the students’ insightful questions about day-to-day duties as a minister, life as a female MP, her choice of party, the extent of UK support abroad and Scottish independence.
Ms Greening was invited by Michelle Donelan, Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Chippenham.
