A woman who started a fire at a house while on bail for arson has been remanded in custody by a judge.

Katherine Applegate, 29, set light to curtains at the property in Grittleton having already started a blaze at a house in Freshbrook, Swindon.

Applegate, who gave the court an address in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire, pleaded guilty to two counts of arson when she appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Friday.

She started the blaze at the terraced property on Crawford Close, Freshbrook, on Saturday, February 15.

Applegate appeared before a judge for a preliminary hearing in June and was released on bail while the case papers were prepared.

But on Monday, August 4, she started a fire in curtains at a property in South Barn, Grittleton.

Gavin Holme, defending, said an appointment had already been made for his client to see a psychiatrist so a report could be before the sentencing court.

Judge Douglas Field adjourned the case to Friday, October 3, and remanded her in custody until then.
