THE finishing touches were put on Aldbourne’s community orchard when labels were fixed to each tree with the names of the sponsors.
The labels also recorded the date of planting, name of the tree and, where the sponsors wanted it, a dedication.
Lesley Andrews from Village Green said: “These messages include memories of a loved one, dedications to a four legged friend, a celebration of life and good wishes for the future of the village.
“Already the first blossom is about to open and this mild, wet and warm winter has helped to get everything off to a good start.”
More than 40 fruit and nut trees have been planted in 14 locations around the village over the past two years by members of Village Green.
As wells as sponsorship, the project also benefited from a grant from Hills Waste under the Landfill Community Fund.
