The boss of Costa Coffee is confident Devizes can sustain two shops.
Costa franchisee Premier Coffee, based in Southamp-ton, opened its second town shop in the former Polly Tea Rooms – on the corner of the Market Place and Snuff Street – on Saturday. It already has one in The Brittox.
The new shop has at least 63 covers, about double that of The Brittox, which opened in December 2006.
Matt Coulthard, operations manager for Premier Coffee, said: “Our existing store has really outgrown itself, due to such a high demand for Costa in Devizes.
“We have opened second stores in other similar size towns with great success and, after a very encouraging weekend, can see that both stores will be popular.”
The Polly Tea Rooms last traded as Scrummylicious cafe which closed in 2012.
Mr Coulthard said: “Pollys is in a great location on the Market Place and is the perfect size for us.”
The company employs 16 staff across both shops.
Devizes Mayor Pete Smith opened the new coffee shop.
