silver-haired songsters in Devizes will be raising money for a good cause when they perform a concert in the Corn Exchange next week.

Three years ago Bath man Grenville Jones started the Devizes Good Afternoon Choir. With more than 100 members from the town, it has already raised hundreds of pounds for charities and will be staging its spring concert at the Corn Exchange on Saturday, April 26, at 7.30pm.

It will be attended by the mayor Pete Smith and guests include young musicians who are studying at Bath Spa University. Called Take 5, they will be performing popular songs from musicals.

Choir members chose the Dorothy House Hospice and Wiltshire Air Ambulance to benefit from the concert. There will also be a raffle and prizes include two £25 tickets for a concert at Bath Abbey on September 27 featuring the famous Treorchy Male Choir and Mr Jones’s equally celebrated Bath Male Choir, from the BBC’s Last Choir Standing.

Mr Jones is also the founder of the Golden-Oldies Charity, which runs sessions in Devizes for older people.

There has been a session at Slade House, Devizes Alms Houses, for the past year held on the second Wednesday of each month from 2pm to 3pm.

A new Goldies session starts on the last Friday of April from 2pm to 3pm at the Nursteed Centre in Devizes.

Tickets are available for the Corn Exchange concert on (01761) 472468.
