Police have stepped up their search around the house of murdered Melksham woman Suzanne Newton.

A forensic team finished their work and a tent, erected after the discovery of the woman's body on Sunday morning, was taken away yesterday as police officers undertook a search of the grounds around 51 Barnes Wallis Close on the Bowerhill estate.

Husband Richard Newton, arrested on Monday on suspicion of her murder, is still receiving hospital treatment.

Police had been searching for the 51-year-old after his car was found unattended at Brendon Common, Exmoor on Sunday.

And after the search spread south following the discovery of his car, a blue Volkswagen Polo, the 51-year-old was arrested in Dulverton, Devon.

The man was taken to Taunton Police Station, he remains under arrest and is being guarded by police officers whilst in hospital after being assessed at the custody suite.

Once discharged from hospital he will be taken to Melksham Police Station for interview.

Mr and Mrs Newton are believed to have lived at the Bowerhill address for three years and one neighbour said last night: "It's very sad. She kept to herself, but we always used to see her walking her dog."

Work colleagues of Mrs Newton have paid their respects by leaving floral tributes outside her home.

Mrs Newton, believed to be in her forties, was employed by Darren Guinness Associates, and fellow workers at the Calne-based recruitment agency have left flowers at the end of the driveway of her home.

One floral tribute read: “18 flowers from 18 people thinking of you. Such a sad loss, lots of love from everyone at DGA (Darren Guinness Associates).”

Another read: “RIP. Always in our hearts, sleep tight, sweet dreams. Julia, David and Caitlin.”

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Mr Newton leading up to Sunday or who may have any information on this incident is asked to call Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800500111 where information can be left anonymously.
