Pole dancers had Devizes Opportunity Centre manager Betty Newman head over heels with delight when they presented a cheque to our Give Us A Chance appeal.

Gina Dexter, who runs Pole Krazee, and instructor Becky Springett visited the centre on Tuesday to hand over £525.

Pole Krazee donated 50p from every session to charity and then held a raffle among members to decide where the cash should go.

Emma Webb, who works for Goughs Soliicitors in Devizes, got the lucky ticket and decided the opportunity centre should receive the money.

She said: “I knew about the work of the centre and thought it would be good for the money to go to a local charity.”

Mrs Newman said: “ We were amazed at the amount of money raised. It was a brilliant effort and we are so grateful to everyone in the community who thinks of us and helps to make our work possible.”

The next fundraising events for our Give Us A Chance appeal will be the Rowde Village Fete on July 5, from 11.30-4pm. It is being organised by the parish council and will be held on the play area next to the church.

Attractions will include a variety of stalls and sideshows and a beer tent.

On July 26, the action will move to Worton when a fun day including a dog show, veteran car display, fairground rides and circus skills workshops will be held.

It is being organised by Paul and Hilary Hams, whose grandson Isambard Pickford, three, goes to the centre.

The couple who run Hams Transport in Devizes, and live in the village, are being supported by Isambard’s parents Rachel and Tim Pickford. The event starts at 11am in a field off the High Street.
