LAST Friday, before a jam-packed double surgery, I visited Cereal Partners Worldwide based in Staverton. The iconic factory steeped in history as a local employer continues to employ hundreds of local people.

I met many who had climbed the ranks from the shop floor to management and it was wonderful to hear of their strong staff retention. They produce some of the nation's favourite cereals like Shreddies and they spoke about how they have and are reducing the sugar content in all their cereals and working with schools and food banks to support the local community. This is something I pledged to help them on.

Cereal Partners Worldwide echoed the skills gap in engineering and manufacturing that I have been pushing in Parliament and I look forward to working with them on the Second Wiltshire Festival of Engineering later this year. From there I went on to visit Great Bear Distribution Ltd in Melksham who are the warehouse facility for Cereal Partners Worldwide.

At the weekend I enjoyed supporting the Blooming Great Tea Party to help raise money for Marie Curie, organised by J Sheppard and Son Ltd on Bumpers Farm Industrial Estate, Chippenham.

Marie Curie is a fantastic charity which provides care and support for people living with any terminal illness and their families. Last year they cared for more than 40,000 people across the UK. It is lovely to support local people helping such worthy causes.

It was also great to visit Emmanuel Church's community open day at the weekend. The annual free event open to all local residents offered coffee, cake (which looked delicious but I avoided!) crafts, children’s activities and a bouncy castle plus a display of the knitting club's work which they will send to Syria, Hungary and Uganda.

The soapbox derby in Chippenham on Sunday pulled in the crowds and was a great example of how our towns cater for families and all ages. Well done to all involved.

There were numerous events on last weekend which meant that I could not attend them all but if you are organising a local community event or attending one please do let me know and I will try to pop along to support – email michelle.donelan.mp@parliament.uk
