LAST week local people bestowed upon me the greatest honour possible. I am delighted to be re-elected as the Member of Parliament for the Chippenham constituency. I would like to thank everyone who voted for me and placed their faith in me – I will not let you down.

My team were fantastic and I thank everyone who helped me. We should be proud of the positive campaign that we ran.

For the last two years I have worked hard for you, working on my local plan, trying to be accessible and approachable and standing up for our area and local people in Parliament. In particular I have stood up for our schools and pushed for more funding because I do believe every child deserves a good start in life and an excellent education.

I have forged a Corsham Town Team and made considerable progress on Corsham station. There is a long way to go which I can now crack on with.

One of my proudest achievements was organising the first ever Wiltshire Festival of Engineering to tackle the local skills gap and highlight the wonderful local jobs available to our young.

My pledge now is to stand up for all local people (no matter who they voted for) and continue to be a strong local champion for our area.

The national result was not what I had hoped for but the time now is to get on with it and provide governance for our country. I am resuming my weekly surgeries with immediate effect so if you need an appointment for a problem or have something that you would like to discuss please email michelle.donelan.mp@parliament.uk, call 01249 704465 or write to Michelle Donelan MP, 61 New Road, Chippenham, SN15 1ES.

Please also contact me if you would like me to attend a forthcoming event or visit a local charity, business or organisation.

I love our area and I am truly passionate about making it an even better place to live.

The election is now over and it is time to bury political divides and get on with working together to improve Chippenham, Corsham, Bradford on Avon, Melksham, Hilperton and surrounding villages.
