POLITICS is a fast-moving business. After submitting last week's article the Chancellor reversed the decision to increase Class 4 NICs. This was a big win for the local self-employed and I had lobbied hard against the proposed changes, including meeting him.

On pensions I recently met a local group of WASPI (Women Against State Pension Inequality) women in Parliament and am continuing to fight their cause. Please get in touch if you are impacted by the increase in the women's pension age.

The last few weeks have been very busy doing multiple school visits discussing democracy with local children. I think it is crucial to ensure children feel their voice is heard even if they can't vote. I have also been campaigning for a review of the proposed school fairer funding. The petition has been signed by so many and I thank you for helping me to push the case.

I was delighted by this week's news of government investment into Melksham's TransWilts Community Rail Partnership to boost tourism.

I have backed this group for years and stressed their work and importance of the local rail service in Melksham to the Rail Minster when he visited the town the other week. Melksham station has had the biggest percentage increase in passenger numbers of any station in England and a grant to support tourism will serve to boost the town centre.

Last week I also visited a local registered residential home for three people who have learning and/ or physical disabilities and have lived there for more than 20 years. They are planning to turn it into a supported living service. The staff were awe inspiring, most having also worked in the home for more than 20 years.

On the topic of caring we all know that we have a massive issue with adult social care provision and one which we are addressing.

I have been doing lots of visits recently with care home providers and meeting carers.

Every time I am honestly so impressed and inspired by the individuals who dedicate their careers to helping others.

There are so many issues that they face, including pay and recognition, but on behalf of everyone I would like to say thank you to every carer in Wiltshire – paid and unpaid.

I have spaces available in my weekly surgeries. Call (01249) 704465 or email michelle.donelan.mp@parliament.uk
