I REPRESENT one of the larger Constituencies in England, stretching from the A303 to the M4, and from the outskirts of Hungerford almost to Melksham, so I try to move my advice surgeries around, so that people do not have to travel quite so much.

‘Let your MP Take The Strain’ is a good motto I think!

This Friday I headed to Aldbourne where my surgery was held in the inspiring Community Junction HQ – brimming with local people, young and old, working together on many projects that benefit the village and each other.

I also popped into one of my favourite destinations, the Aldbourne Post Office, Café & Deli which continues to try all sorts of innovations for customers – just a brilliant local business.

Earlier in the day, I visited many of the local and independent businesses in and around the Woodborough Garden Centre to celebrate the benefits of shopping locally on Small Business Saturday and also met up with some of our local farmers and the NFU to discuss the best Brexit terms to support UK agriculture, and more local concerns like the scourge of hare coursing and the ever-present menace of Bovine TB that is affecting many parts of the area.

Brexit, of course, has loomed large this week in Parliament as the process for triggering Article 50 is debated in the courts and possible options for a 'red white and blue' Brexit are discussed.

It is a little disappointing that any attempt to encourage our PM and Government to discuss the crucial trade-offs between market access, immigration, payment or not into the EU, and restoration of our sovereignty is met with an outpouring of negativity from some parts of the media. Especially as I was told in no uncertain terms during the referendum by some campaigners that that it was not up to Leave to say what the deal should look like, but up to MPs and the Government to define and execute the terms of our exit.

The term Remoaner makes me chuckle. As someone who has always been congenially optimistic about life, I can see huge opportunities for the UK as we exit the EU – and equally large risks if we follow the lead of a handful of Euro-hating zealots who try to force decisions based on ideology, not fact.

For the record, I want to see Article 50 triggered in March and trust Theresa May to lead us to the right outcome during what will be arduous and tough negotiations. There is no Remoaning here! Let’s bring on Brexit and make it work for Britain.
