THERE was fun in the sun in Seend on Saturday as old fashioned fun brightened up the village as it staged its fete and flower show.

Villagers turned out in force for the annual event which saw the Lye Field turned into an array of colour as a fancy dress parade was held to get festivities underway.

In the nearby community centre in Rusty Lane colour was also the order of the day as magnificent blooms and giant vegetables were judged as part of the village flower show.

Both events raise money to keep the hall and field in good condition for village activities.

The fete included an impressive array of classic vehicles, Punch and Judy boisterous fun, live music and a big selection of sideshows and stalls. Welly wanging was introduced for the first time.

Work to make both a huge success started on Thursday when an army of volunteers helped to set up the marquees and stalls and continued until Monday for the clean up.

A spokesman for both committees said: "A massive thank you to all who visited Seend Fete. They made it a fabulous day. The fete committee would like to say thank you to all the villagers and organisations who helped put on the day.

"This fete is run entirely through volunteer effort. Thanks to the residents who run stalls, put up tents, bash in poles and lug things around."

Thanks also went to Fantasy Radio who supported the fete with broadcast, sound and commentary services.

The spokesman said: "The committees only facilitate by providing the framework and organisation for this great annual day. The patient and giving volunteers, many of them in the shadows, who populate the stalls, provide the breakfasts and refreshments, put out the signs, take them in again. mark out the field, set out the community centre are key to the day actually happening.

"The Fete and Flower Show would not happen without these kind folks who form the heart of our spirited community."
