THANK you! I want to use my first column to say a massive thank you to all those who voted for me, supported me and helped me.

My team and I have pounded the streets over the past years to spread the message of my plan for our area and the benefits of stability and economic security with a Conservative government. However it is you, the voters, who have given me this opportunity.

I pledge to work hard to repay the trust and faith placed in me. I will be a strong and effective MP for all my constituents – not just those who voted for me.

The real work begins now and now I can start to put into place my local plan. I have always said that I believe in actions not words. I will work to rejuvenate our town centres, try and reduce the numbers of empty shops, ease parking concerns and will help to market our towns to attract more businesses to relocate here and support our small businesses, who are our local job creators. I will also be working hard to protect our villages, safeguard our countryside and rural communities.

Most constituents commute out of the area for work – adding an extra burden onto their family income. I want to help bring more jobs into our area.

Given our location and transport network this is very achievable but we need to push and promote our towns as well as create a business friendly environment.

I appreciate the importance of my role because we really are at a turning point in Wiltshire. We are building house after house without attracting the local jobs for the new residents.

I commuted from Chippenham in 2013 and understand that commuters are not there to spend in the local economy and have little time in the week to be a part of the local community. This is concerning because we deserve more than being simply dormitory areas. I want to work with you to safeguard and encourage our community and events.

I plan to be an accessible and approachable MP with surgeries in supermarkets and cafés as well as offices. I am currently creating my schedule of surgeries and will publish it on my website shortly – michelledonelan.com. You can email me at any time on michelle@michelledonelan.com.

This government has a lot to achieve. I will help ensure that we actually do what we pledged. I am looking forward to helping create more opportunities for all.

We will be expanding the Help to Buy scheme, creating more local apprenticeship schemes, increasing childcare to 30 hours free a week, linking the minimum wage with inflation and increasing the tax free allowance to £12,500.

I am looking forward most to helping give everyone a fair shot in life, no matter what their background and will be a strong voice for our local schools and charities.
