Rail company transforms carriage for Queen's Diamond Jubilee

First Great Western has redesigned the livery of one of its trains to help celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The new-look High Speed Train Power Car could be travelling through Swindon right now, carrying the official emblem for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee 2012, designed by 10-year-old Katherine Dewar from Chester.

It took a day for a specialist team to ‘wrap’ the train at First Great Western’s Laira Depot in Plymouth, before having her nose and roof repainted by Laira’s maintenance team.

After a test run last week, the train is back in full service, operating throughout Wiltshire and the South West from Tuesday.

Gavin Payne, First Great Western Contracts Engineer at Laira depot said: "The speed at which these guys can remodel, refresh, wrap and paint a train is incredible. And it looks fantastic too.

"Being able to join the country as we celebrate 60 years of the Queen as Monarch, and hopefully be able to bring a smile as the quirky design passes through stations, is awesome."

First Great Western is treating first class customers to a high tea in the first class lounge on Friday, June 1 ahead of the Jubilee weekend, where the power car will be at Paddington station for all customers to enjoy.
