Devizes day of fun to mark jubilee
4:00pm Friday 6th April 2012 in Queen Elizabeth celebrates her diamond jubilee
Devizes Town Council has arranged a day of fun, music and entertainment on the Green to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on June 3.
The council is organising entertainment in the hope that families will bring along picnics and listen to the music as they eat and drink.
Carole Berry, the council’s direct services manager, said: “This will be a true community event with entertainment, games and stalls echoing those from Queen Elizabeth’s silver and golden jubilees.
“We hope it will rival Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee celebration in 1887.”
Celebrity chef Peter Vaughan will hold cookery demonstrations and Star Wars characters will wander among the crowds. Groups such as the Rotary Club and Devizes PHAB will run stalls and supply picnic food.
Butchers Walter Rose and Son are providing a pig roast and members of staff will show off their morris dancing skills.
Other entertainment will include a samba band, a 100-voice community choir, First Stages youth musical theatre, opera duo Due Voci, Pete Lamb and the Heartbreakers, Bruce Hopkins and the Strong Twins, jazz vocalist Jemma B and Mick Jogger and the Rolling Zones.
Devizes’ own radio station, Fantasy Radio, will cover the event and do live interviews with participants.
