RED RAGS TO THE BULL: Children at All Cannings Primary get into the spirit of the Pamplona-style bull run (20203/1)

BULLS and matadors took to the street in All Cannings , near Devizes and more than 50 villagers of all ages agreed to take part in the round up.

The spectacular Pamplona-stylebull runwas set up by the primary school pupils as a finale of their Spanish week.

Pupils made bulls' heads and horned headbands to wear and others carried colourful paintings of Spanish saints on poles.

Some were dressed in Spanish costumes while others were dressed in the football shirts of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

And, to make the event even more realistic, All Cannings had the hot weather to match Spain.

Headteacher Julia Roberts said it had been an enjoyable experience for everyone who had been involved.

She said: "We had a lot of villagers wanting to be the bulls when they realised they wouldn't be gored or would not have to run.

"The children have been told about the bull run in Pamplona and they know it is something not to imitate in real life.

"What we did was to create the spectacle of it."

Afterwards, everyone who took part was invited back to the school for refreshments.

During Spanish week the pupils also cooked Spanish food and tucked into tapas at break time.

The younger pupils were taught a Spanish song by teacher Sue Webb and teaching assistant Mary Williams.

The pupils also created mosaics using tiles and flamenco dancer Tiki Howard from Swindon taught the pupils .

Mrs Roberts said: "Almost to a child they really enjoyed the flamenco dancing. Even the older boys, who at first didn't like the frilly clothes, saw they could be quite macho."
