Devizes is to have its first community choir.

Sing Alive is different from many traditional choirs. As a community choir it is open to all, regardless of previous musical ability or experience.

All the songs are taught by ear, there is no music to read and there are no auditions.

Community choir leader Sian Penlington, who runs Sing Alive, said: "At Sing Alive we believe everyone can sing and that there is something really powerful about singing together with others.

"The songs we teach are melodic, easy to learn and all taught by ear. It"s all very informal and fun."

The songs taught are traditional English, European, Welsh, African and American folk, gospel and community songs.

The choir starts this month and will run on Thursday afternoons.

Sing Alive are holding a series of half-hour free taster sessions for anyone interested in joining on September 11th and 18th at 1.15pm and 2.15pm on each day.

The sessions will be held in the Parish Rooms on Long Street.
