AN elderly Devizes couple have been left traumatised after confronting burglars in their home.
Three men crept into the couple's home in Hartmoor Road on Monday at about 5pm and stole £1,470 in cash, a pension book and keys.
The married couple, who do not wish to be named, were at home and the wife disturbed one of the men when she went upstairs.
She shouted downstairs to her husband to call the police.
While he was calling 999 the intruder ran down the stairs, pushed the woman's husband, knocking the phone out of his hand.
Another two men then ran down the stairs.
They escaped by leaving through the back door and locking it behind them.
The woman said: "It was terrible, the first night after it happened we didn't get any sleep at all."
Her husband said: "It really shook us up, we don't want this sort of hassle."
The couple's house was unlocked because at the time they were having building work done but police have said the workmen are not suspects.
Police officers, together with a police dog and the police helicopter, searched for the intruders but no arrests have been made.
Police have issued descriptions of the suspects.
All are described as white. One man is in his late twenties, 6ft tall, with short mousey hair, stocky build, round face, wearing a T-shirt with horizontal orange stripes.
The other two men are in their early twenties, short dark hair, small build and one was wearing a mottled blue long sleeve top.
Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt Allen Lumley at Devizes police on 0845 408 7000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Efit pictures of the suspects are due to be released today and will be posted on this site.
