Boy airlifted to hospital after serious collision in Devizes

A YOUNG boy was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following a collision on London Road, Devizes, last night.

The boy was a passenger in the rear of a Land Rover Discovery which was hit from behind by a Bodmans coach.

Police said the Land Rover Discovery had stopped behind a vehicle which was waiting to turn right into the entrance to Devizes Sports Club when the collision occurred.

The Bodmans coach, which had no passengers on board, was returning to its base at Worton after working in Swindon.

The collision happened at 5.58pm. Paramedics from the Air Support Unit at Police headquarters in London Road rushed to the scene and the boy was flown by the Wiltshire Air Ambulance to the Royal United Hospital, Bath, arriving at 6.30pm.

London Road was closed until 11pm while police carried out investigations.

Witnesses are asked to call John Armstrong at the central roads policing unit at Chippenham on 0845 408 7000.
