Corsham police crack down on vandals

Corsham Police have announced a campaign to tackle criminal damage in targeted areas of the town.

Sgt Steve McGrath said: "Although the overall crime rate for the Corsham area is down by 6.7 per cent from this time last year and our crime detection rates are up, we are by no means complacent.

"We want local residents to know that we are ready to react to their concerns, which is why we have launched this latest initiative aimed at tackling criminal damage in the Town Centre and South Street areas.

"South Street is a route back from the town for many people after a night out and we believe a very small minority of those people are committing anti-social behaviour.

"Over the weekend we had reports of five cars being damaged in this street, which is why we are taking immediate action. We are following up strong leads from witnesses about this particular incident and are very grateful for information which we have already been given by members of the local community."

The campaign will involve: *Extra patrols in the South Street area, with immediate effect.

*These patrols will be targeted to particular times when police know vehicles are more vulnerable, such as closing times of public houses and bars.

*A meeting with local community safety partners to collate local information and look at long term solutions.

*Gathering community intelligence from local residents and businesses who continue to be a great help in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.

* CCTV surveillance Sgt McGrath added: "We want to send a message to people who think vandalism and committing criminal damage is a crime they can get away with. We are watching you and we will use every resource at our disposal to bring you before the courts.

"I would ask local people to call us if they have any information which could help us with this campaign. If they have any information about any acts of criminal damage they can call 0845 4087000 and ask to speak to Corsham Town Centre Community Beat Manager Mike Moss or PC Peter Clarke. If they want to leave information anonymously they can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."

About time all the cheeky little **** get caught and go down. Glad something is being done to a town that was once safe and good to be around. Now its just little kids thinking there hard and cool to go around making fun of old people or causing trouble around the centre of town. Good work police.

I blame the amount of 'E' numbers in Sunny Delight for all the problems

My Bro's car got done in this area along with our mate's a few months back and if I catch anyone in the act of doing it I'll stove their faces in, big or small. (This last statement was made for humorous effect it is not be taken seriously and can not be used as evidence against me.) But I will!

Yesss I Agree .. But It's A Start ? The Police Are Scared To An Extent But Trying Is Better Than Nothing Is It Not? And Pinning Some1 To A Wall Is Nothing To Be Proud Of ? Your As Bad As The Culprit Now By Taking Law In To Your Own Hands (Y)

I dont have something to prove to anyone because what other people may think of me is of no interest what so ever. However im not someone who was raised to be rude to people or to disrespect the elderly or other peoples property and I most certainly will not walk by while some edlerly person is threatened or frightened by some out of control brat who's parents lacked the skills to instill a tiny bit of discipline and respect for people and property. Also can I just ask did you call me a twatt? it is very difficult to tell since your typing of the english language is appalling.Sometimes in this world you have to act first and rely on the authorities later sometimes scaring some sense into these kids is all thats needed if there parents did it in the first place the town wouldnt have these problems.

i totally agree with you. i think some parents are scared of thier children leaving them to do as they are pleased. if these kids are caught the should be named and shamed get them to clean thier mess up

Where are the parents when these kids are on the rampage cars were damaged in my road and it was 3.30 am. I wanted to know that my children were in bed before I went to bed as they got older I wanted to know where they were. I always found out if they had been misbehaving and they knew I would come down on them like a ton of bricks.
