Thousands are expected to see Wiltshire's 999 heroes in action at the Emergency Services Show at Hullavington airfield on Sunday.

crews from the fire, police, ambulance, coastguard and RAF services will be driving, flying and riding in the fourth annual event, which attracted 8,000 visitors last year.

Malmesbury fire fighter Wayne Jones, a member of the organising committee, said: "The whole day is always an excellent opportunity for people to come along and see what we do and have a great day out.

"We get lots of interest and it's good for the public to be able to chat to us in a relaxed environment, rather than the high pressure situations we are usually in.

"Fire fighters are recruiting for retained crews nationally, so are the police and other services, so there will be opportunities to talk about careers with us too."

A large number of vintage fire engines, ambulances and police cars will be on display, along with some of the latest and technically advanced vehicles and equipment the services now use.

As well as fire engine rides, fun fair, various stalls and the GWR FM Black Thunders, children will be entertained by dog displays, helicopters, motorcycle displays and an action-packed main arena.

Committee member Mark Levitt said: "This really is a great day out not to be missed with unique opportunities to meet the people keeping us safe.

"Anyone is welcome and we've got lots going on so it will be a really good, educational, day."

The show, which is the biggest of its kind in the UK, is a joint collaboration between the police, fire and ambulance services, set up to promote the work of the services and raise money for community charities.

Last year the show raised £5,000 and split the cash between the Bobby Van Trust, Wiltshire Air Ambulance, Fire Service Benevolent Fund, GWR Kids Appeal, 4x4 Response, the Wootton Bassett Sea Cadets and the Severn Freewheelers.

Tickets cost £5 for adults, £2.50 for children aged 3-16 and under-threes are free. For information visit www.emergencyservicesshow. com
