Queen’s award for hi-tech security firm
 |
| OYAL APPROVAL: Staff at SunGard in Chippenham with a flag signifying their Queen's Award for Enterprise |
The Queen has honoured Chippenham firm SunGard, whose hi-tech security systems are used at major sporting venues across the country.
SunGard, with offices at Methuen Park, Bath Road, Chippenham, and Marshfield, has received the The Queen's Award for Enterprise for its innovation.
It employs 700 staff in North Wiltshire, where it has been based for 25 years.
Its security systems and safety control rooms can be found at Wembley, Manchester United's Old Trafford ground, Aintree and Epsom racecourses and many other large arenas.
The control rooms are used to house CCTV and other hi-tech systems that are monitored by police and security staff.
The award is for the company's continuous development of public safety communication systems.
As well as sporting venues, Sungard's communication systems are also used by a number of police forces, ambulance headquarters, fire services and air-sea rescue centres.
Paul Eggleton of SunGard said he and his colleague are delighted with the honour.
He said: "The company is extremely pleased about winning the award. We have had employees here with us for over ten years now who have been developing our products.
"We are the market leaders in the UK and that shows how far we have come. Everybody who has worked for the company deserves this award."
The annual winners and recipients of the Queen's Award were announced on Monday to co-incide with the Queen's birthday.
Prime Minsiter Gordon Brown said: "Winning companies are standard-bearers for the very best of British business.
"These firms embody the spirit of enterprise and
innovation that is so vital to the future of Britain's economy.
Whether large or small, every one of this year's winning organisations has
achieved outstanding success in its field.
"I congratulate them all on their diverse and remarkable achievements.
John Hutton, Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, said: "I congratulate all of this year's Queen's Award-winning businesses and the individuals who are recipients of The Queen's Award for Enterprise Promotion."
"We want more new and growing businesses in the UK and more companies
and people acting on their enterprising ideas - and these outstanding award-winners are all great examples of that."

Another great example of a reporter who can't write - spelling mistakes, grammar errors and a boring read. Well done gazette.
