Access road to Sheldon School is granted
4:26pm Thursday 24th April 2008 in News
Sheldon School, in Chippenham, was last night given the go ahead by the development control meeting to create an access road on to the site.
The secondary school, on Hardenhuish Lane submitted plans to create a road leading into the southern part of the campus for pedestrian and cycle access only.
They want to improve access to the site so that they can cope with an expected increase of staff and pupils by 2009.
Six letters of objection were put forward to the committee mainly over traffic concerns. The committee put these concerns to rest by explaining that traffic accidents are very unlikely as the road would only be used by cyclists and pedestrians.
The plans also involve providing more parking spaces and cycle shelters to reduce traffic in the centre of the site and on Hardenhuish Lane.
Work is hoped to start in the summer holidays and be completed for September for the opening of a new sixth form centre.
